The legal stuff.... 

When you book a courses/tuition, you must understand that you are bound by the rules below. These are short & sweet, but they are designed to cover your back as much as ours. 

  • I am physically fit for the course/race I have chosen
  • I appreciate that the activity may be hazardous by its nature and I accept a certain element of risk
  • I agree to abide by such regulations as Mountain Run may consider advisable
  • I understand that if I make an alteration to or cancel my booking once an invoice has been raised or I have paid the course fee, I must give my new instructions in writing and pay an amendment or admin fee of £10.
  • I understand that if I cancel or transfer my booking within 2 weeks prior to the start of my course I will be liable for the full course fee.
  • We reserve the right to cancel a course/race if it is not fully booked, or we are unable to run it for what ever reason. If this happens, we will either transfer your monies towards another course or refund you in full. Of course this will be a last resort and we will do everything in our power to make sure a course is run before we think about cancelling it. 

Declaration: 

  • I confirm that I am fit and healthy to take part in the race on the day of the race. 
  • I confirm I am aware of the inherent risks of running on the fells and mountains.
  • I confirm I am able to cross a road, whilst in use, without the help or assistance of a race marshal
  • I confirm I am able to complete both the ascent, descent and distance in the race I have entered
  • I confirm I am skilled enough and/or possess the correct skill set to complete the race I have entered. 
  • I confirm all the information I have detailed in my race entry is correct and 100% honest
  • I confirm that I can make the decision of whether to start, continue or stop during the race and I am able to understand when I am not able to do so. 
  • I confirm I can competently follow a way marked course
  • I confirm that if I retire from the race, at any stage, or for any reason, be it injury, fatigue or some other reason, then I will report immediately, or as soon as reasonably possible, my retirement to a race marshal, and upon returning to the event centre, I shall report my retirement to the Race Director. I confirm that if I retire, I will return the timing device to the Race Director.
  • I confirm, and allow, the race organisers, associated media partners to use imagery (still or moving) in marketing materials to promote future editions of the race, or any new race promoted by the Race Directors or The Outdoor Warehouse (Windermere) Ltd. I confirm that any imagery may be used to promote the race, including but not excluding online, in printed media, video, news or broadcast.
  • I confirm that I have read all race literature, as displayed on the website, or through links provided on the website.
  • I confirm that I agree to release The Outdoor Warehouse (Windermere) Ltd, its staff, agents, representatives, associates, sponsors, marshals, and volunteers for any and all liability, including but not limited to claims, liability, damages, demands, causes of actions for any loss, damage, injury, claim, legal fees or action arising from my participation in the Wansfell Trail Race. This release extends to any claim made by my family, estate, heirs, or assigns arising from or in any way connected with the aforementioned activities. This release does not include a release to The Outdoor Warehouse (Windermere) Ltd for acts of its own negligence.
  • The Outdoor Warehouse (Windermere) Ltd accepts its responsibility to make it's courses as safe as is reasonably practicable. However, adventurous activities are inherently hazardous and cannot be completely risk free, however hard we try. Accidents can happen without any contributory negligence from The Outdoor Warehouse (Windermere) Ltd or its staff. The Outdoor Warehouse (Windermere) Ltd can accept no responsibility for loss or damage to personal property or for personal injury not arising as a result of its own act or default. I understand and accept the above statements and accept that I have a responsibility to take careful note of instructions and to act in a way that will minimise the likelihood of injury. I am fit for the course and will inform The Outdoor Warehouse (Windermere) Ltd before the course of any special medical conditions that might affect my safety.

Runners Rules and Regulations: 

The following Runners’ Rules apply to runners in Mountain Run races and events and you will be expected to have read them, and to agree to comply with the requirements, as a condition of entry.

1. Know what you are in for. 

You must be confident you are capable of completing any race you enter.

2. Comply with the Race Rules.

Mountain Run Events may introduce special requirements to suit a particular race (for example additional equipment, time limits, previous experience criteria) and these must be obeyed.

3. Use appropriate kit for the course and conditions.

‘Minimum Kit’ is the mandatory minimum for all our races

‘Minimum Kit’ comprises:-

 Waterproof whole body cover, hat, gloves, map of the route, compass, whistle, emergency food.

Your waterproof whole body cover must have taped seams and an attached hood. We may check your kit before you are allowed to register, or at any time during the race. If the kit list can be relaxed it will be, but don’t risk being turned away from the event. Runners often question whether this level of kit is necessary – the kit is not needed when you are running strongly, but for a runner stopped because of injury or tiredness it could be a life-saver, either for you or for someone else in difficulties.

4. Race Numbers

Wear your race number on your chest and show it to marshals at check-points.

The race number is an essential part of running the race, to check that runners don’t skip a checkpoint and to keep track of runners who are lagging behind or have dropped out of the event. If you put on a cagoule over your number be prepared to uncover it to show to race officials at checkpoints, so that the number can be recorded. Don’t fold or cut down numbers as this makes them more difficult to read and also conceals the sponsor’s name. Only shout out your number if you are asked to do so.

5. Retirement 

When you have registered for a race, you must inform the Race Organiser if you don’t complete it, for any reason.

After you have registered with the race organisation (normally this means collecting your number before the start) you are officially ‘in the race’. You must report to the Race Organiser or an official at the finish if you drop out for any reason at any time – deploying Mountain Rescue to find someone who is safe at home will quickly exhaust the goodwill of the rescue organisations. Look out at the start for any specific retirement procedures introduced by the Race Organiser.

6. Juniors 

A parent or legal guardian must consent to junior runners’ race entries and agree to the conditions of entry.

Juniors are those under 18 on the day of the race. Consent by parent or legal guardian can be given by a signature on the event entry form, or by bringing a completed and signed parental consent form to the event.

Junior runners should bring a waterproof top and leggings to all races and should remember that when participating in a Senior race they may have to carry the full kit, as for the Senior runners.

7. Personal Conduct 

Behave respectfully to other competitors, race officials and members of the public sharing the same area of countryside.

Runners should adhere to the Countryside Code, for example the need to shut gates which you opened. Do not climb dry-stone walls or wire fences, which can damage them and may be grounds for disqualification. Respect private property and other users of the fells.

8. Disciplinary Action 

The Race Organiser can exclude you from the race if you do not observe their race requirements and these “Runners’ Rules”.

Please ‘do your bit’ to make the race safe and enjoyable for all.

9. Hypothermia 

You must be aware of the basics of hypothermia, the symptoms, treatments and how to avoid it.

Hypothermia is dangerous and has been the cause of several deaths in fell running. If injury or exhaustion causes you to stop or slow down, then body heat will be lost quickly in cold wet or windy weather and the onset of hypothermia can be very rapid unless sufficient clothing can be worn. You may also recognise hypothermia in other runners
